Choosing from this range
A jumpboard replaces the footbar with a flat padded surface, letting you jump horizontally against spring resistance. Because you are lying down, landing forces are a fraction of standing plyometrics — which is why jumpboards appear in rehabilitation programs where standing impact would be contraindicated.
Two things decide whether a jumpboard is right for you: whether it fits your exact reformer model, and whether the room has about 8 ft of ceiling clearance.
What to check before buying a jumpboard
- Mounting compatibility with your exact reformer model
- Ceiling clearance of about 8 ft, more if you are tall
- Surface area wide enough for a wide-stance two-foot jump
- How the footbar interacts — removed first, or drops below
- Padded, grippy surface that is not sticky underfoot
Padded Jumpboards — frequently asked questions
Will any jumpboard fit my reformer?
No — mounting is model-specific and boards rarely transfer between machines. Check compatibility with your exact model before ordering. What springs should I use for jumpboard work?
Around three to start. Heavier springs return the carriage faster and shorten contact time; lighter springs slow the rebound and increase the control demand. Is jumpboard work safe for bad knees?
Usually far safer than standing plyometrics, because landing forces are much lower. Check with a clinician if the knee is currently symptomatic.
