Let’s be honest…Elizabeth Larkam and Madeline Black’s contributions and teachings are in large part why Pilates education and the Pilates industry is where it is today. The quest to deeply understand and articulate the fantastic results clients experience into how we practice and teach Pilates comes through in every workshop, every course, and every training. They fearlessly explored many traditions of movement and sought education on the science behind the method. Their investigations are a voice which many other teachers, me included, aspire to. I have spent many hours in classes, in conversation, and simply in awe of the body of work each has created. I am certain that this labor of love may at times have seemed daunting, but I am equally as certain that this book is a direct descendant of the many hours of course work that both Elizabeth and Madeline have created over the years. Many of the contributors to this book have also been in the ‘room’, and have themselves been touched, inspired, and supported by the questions asked and answered in the works of Elizabeth and Madeline. Many are also partners to Elizabeth and Madeline and are a part of the foundational fabric of the Pilates Industry.
